Our projected value of the Southwest Companion pass is $7,000. To be awarded the southwest Companion Pass we racked up 110,000 rapid reward miles. These miles in essence were free because we earned them without spending any more money than we normally would. The 110000 Rapid Rewards miles are roughly equal to 8 round trip flights for one person. With the companion pass, that’s 8 destinations and 16 round trip flights (because a companion flys free with you). We plan to visit 15 additional to the 8 destinations that we visit using our miles. In order to do this, we would need to pay for them. The average cost for 15 round trip flights should be around $3800. However, the $3800 spent result in $3800 of free airfare for your companion. That’s a minimum of $7000 saved in airfare.

The free 110000 Rapid Rewards miles are equivalent to $3200 worth of free travel.
The $3800 spent on air travel results in $3800 of free travel.
Thats $10800 worth of airfare for $3800.

The way we look at it is over the next 23 months we will receive $10800 worth of travel and only spend $3800. This projected estimate is actually a low estimate because every paid flight will receive rapid reward miles which we then can turn around and use for more free flights.
